Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound excellent in antimicrobial activities against various pathogenic microorganisms including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, useful as an antimicrobial agent for diseases resulting from these pathogenic microorganisms as causing microorganisms. SOLUTION: This compound (salt) is shown by the formula [X1 and Y1 are bonded to form CO-O-CH2 or X1 is a group of the formula COOR1 (R1 is H or a lower alkyl) and Y1 is a group of the formula COOR2 (R2 is R1 ) or CH2 OH] such a compound in which X1 is COOH and Y1 is CH2 OH in the formula. The compound of the formula is obtained by culturing a bacterium (e.g. Microtetraspora sp. A 39,589 or its variant) belonging to the genus Microtetraspora, capable of producing the compound and collecting the compound from its culture solution or its cell when X1 and Y1 are bonded to form CO-O-CH2 or X1 is a group COOH and Y1 is COOH or CH2 OH.
