PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate necessity for inputting all digits and to enable inputting while omitting any specified digit by providing a key input means for inputting code information corresponding to bar code information from a keyboard when the bar code information is abnormal. SOLUTION: When a 'merchandise code order' key 6-42 of a keyboard 6 is pressed, the candidate list of relevant merchandise is displayed in the order of merchandise codes. When a 'key input time order' key 6-41 is inputted, the candidate list of relevant merchandise is displayed in the order of key input times. Then, an operator selects any relevant merchandise out of the candidate list. Afterwards, the number of times of key inputs corresponding to the selected merchandise code is counted up and the sales processing of selected merchandise is performed. Thus, even when a bar code label is abnormal, one part of merchandise code is keyed, a merchandise file is retrieved based on that code and the candidate list of relevant merchandise is displayed so that sales processing can be performed.
