PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably hold all recording media despite the miniaturization of a pressure means and to miniaturize a reading device by varying the pressing size of the upper surface of a recording medium set on a reading mount in response to the size of the recording medium to hold this medium with pressure and reading the information recorded on the recording medium. SOLUTION: In regard to a reading device of an automatic contract device which receives a document, etc., and issues a contract card, for example, a slide pressure plate 103 of a pressure holder 15 forms a pressure surface at the tip side of the lower surface of the plate 103 in a holder main body 102. Then the pressure surfaces of the plate 103 and the main body 102 hold with pressure a comparatively small document. The plate 103 is also slid from the main body 102 for increase of a pressure holding area, so that a large document 107 is held with pressure. A variable adjustment function is added to slide and protrude the plate 103 up to a position accordant with the size of a document to attain the pressing operations in response to the documents of different sizes.
