Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gas adsorbent which can adsorption-remove even NO sufficiently by making a carrier of porous material support the first component containing a water-retentive compound as a main component and the second component containing at least one kind of compound selected from carbonate, hydrogen carbonate, and lower aliphatic acid salt of an alkali metal. SOLUTION: In a gas adsorbent for adsorption-removing nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide, etc., contained in air to be purified, the first component containing a water retentive compound as a main component and the second component containing at least one kind of compound selected from carbonate, hydrogen carbonate, lower aliphatic acid salt of an alkali metal are supported on a carrier of a porous material. Preferably, the water retentive compound contains one kind of compound selected from sulfate and halide of an alkali metal. The gas adsorbent is prepared by a process in which the aqueous solution of the first component and the aqueous solution of the second component are prepared, and after the carrier being impregnated with the aqueous solutions, water in the carrier is evaporated so that the first and the second components are supported by the carrier.
