PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a cosmetic together containing a branched chain fatty acid phytosteryl ester, a diglyceryl branched chain fatty acid ester dicarboxylic acid condensate, etc., which have water-holding properties in some extents, having a high water-retaining property and a high emollient effect, and useful for protecting skins and nails. SOLUTION: This cosmetic contains the combination of two or more kinds of components selected from (A) a branched fatty acid phytosteryl ester, (B) a diglyceryl branched chain fatty acid ester dicarboxylic acid condensate, and (C) a polyglyceryl branched chain fatty acid ester. The components are preferably compounded in a total amount of 0.01-50.0wt.% based on the cosmetic. Thereby, the cosmetic synergistically improves water retainability and occlusivity on skins and nails, has far excellent effects is low in irritability and high in safety, and give good use touches.
