Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a recording wavelength shorter and a recording density higher by specifying the center line average height of a coating layer surface, the center line average height of the film surface on the surface opposite to this coating layer the thickness of the coating layer, and the thickness of a magnetic layer. SOLUTION: The coating layer surface of a biaxially oriented polyester film having the coating layer disposed thereon within a film forming stage is provided with the magnetic layer formed by dispersing magnetic powder into a resin binder. The center line average height of the coating layer surface is specified to 10nm and the center line average height of the film surface on the surface (non-coating layer surface) opposite to the coating layer is specified to 10 to 30nm. The thickness (t)(μm) of the coating layer and the thickness tM(μm) of the magnetic layer are so set as to satisfy 0.05μm
