Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the life of a carrying belt and to prevent the surface staining of copied image caused by the soiling of the carrying belt and the occurrence of a failure in carrying document due to the damage of the carrying belt, by preventing the locus part of the carrying belt in an automatic document feeder from being locally soiled and damaged by document pressing rollers. SOLUTION: In the automatic document feeder for pressing/transferring a document D on a document platen 101 by the rotating document carrying belt 31, the document pressing rollers for pressing the document carrying belt 31 are constituted of plural lines of rollers in the carrying direction of the document and plural rollers 36A, 36B and 36C are arranged in each roller line. Then, the phases in an axial direction of the rollers of each line are arranged to be different from each other, so that the rollers 36A, 36B and 36C of each line pass through different loci in the carrying direction of the document on the surface of the document carrying belt 31.
