PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve the related candidates of Chinese character converted from an input Japanese syllabary string with a dictionary for Japanese syllabary/Chinese character conversion as necessary by retrieving a suffix matching with the reading/ notation of the combination of the input Japanese syllabary character string and the converted Chinese character, and retrieving the word candidates of an index corresponding to the suffix from each dictionary. SOLUTION: A suffix matching with the reading/notation of the combination of an input Japanese syllabary character string and a converted Chinese character is retrieved from a suffix table 46, an index corresponding to the suffix is retrieved from a reverse consolation dictionary 7, and the word candidates of the index are retrieved from an independent word dictionary/proper noun dictionary 41 of a dictionary part 4, and a suffix example dictionary 53 and a compound example dictionary 51 of a word order relation dictionary 5. That is, the word candidates related with the input character string or the conversion Chinese character can be retrieved only by preparing the suffix table 46 and the reverse consultation dictionary 7. Thus, document preparation rich in power of expression can be supported without preparing a data base such as a Japanese dictionary, encyclopedia, and synonym dictionary.
