Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To To obtain a method for improving the processibility of a polyarylene sulfide in the melt spinning operation by treating it with a specific compd. SOLUTION: A polyarylene sulfide is treated with an ionic barium source before melt spinning. The source is selected from among barium-contg. hydroxides and their salts. The treatment of a polyarylene sulfide with a barium compd. can be done by various methods such as melt blending or ion cleaning. In the case of melt blending, barium hydroxide octahydrate is pref. In the case of ion cleaning, a salt such as barium acetate, barium nitrate, barium nitrite, barium sulfate, or barium citrate is recomended, barium acetate being pref. In general, the effects of the treatment are recognized when a polymer having a barium content of about 0.05-2.0wt.% is provided by this treatment.
