SOLUTION: This coating compsn., contg. an inorg. pigment and/or a metal powder, is prepd. by dispersing an inorg. pigment and/or a metal powder in a soln. of an epoxy resin and a carboxylated resin in a water-miscible org. solvent, esterifying epoxy groups with carboxyl groups in the resultant dispersion, and adding ammonia and/or a volatile amine and then water to the dispersion.
