WATER-DISPERSIBLE SHEET AND CIGARETTE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cigarette whose end can easily be disintegrated with rain water by using a water-dispersible sheet produced by forming a water- dispersible coating layer comprising a water-soluble polymer and an alkaline compound on a water-disintegrating base material, as filter-winding paper or chip paper. SOLUTION: Water-dispersible fibers such as wooden pulp are mixed with a water-insoluble powdery materials such as titanium dioxide or a slightly water-soluble powdery material such as calcium carbonate, or with fibrous carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt, carboxyethyl cellulose sodium salt, etc., and subsequently processed into a water-disintegrating base material. The formed base material is impregnated with an alkaline compound such as sodium hydroxide and subsequently subjected to the formation of a water-dispersible coating layer containing a water-soluble polymer such as starch or polyvinyl alcohol and a water-insoluble or a slightly water-soluble powdery material on the substrate. The obtained water-dispersible sheet is used as chip paper or plug-winding paper used in the filter part of the cigarette to produce the cigaratte.
