| Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-purity orthoformylbenzoic acid suitable for industrial operation, capable of preventing formation of by- products of impurities such as diphthalidyl diether as much as possible and producing orthoformylbenzoic acid, by hydrolyzing 1-trichloromethyl-2- dichloromethylbenzene under atmospheric pressure. SOLUTION: In producing orthoformylbenzoic acid by hydrolyzing 1- trichloromethyl-2-dichloromethylbenzene, hydrochloric acid having >=5wt.% HCl concentration is used as the reaction solvent, the reaction system is heated from 80 deg.C to its boiling point in the presence of orthoformylbenzoic acid under atmospheric pressure. Orthoformylbenzoic acid is separated from the reaction mixture by crystallization, the mother liquid obtained by solid-liquid separation is used as the reaction solvent. Orthoformylbenzoic acid is repeatedly and continuously produced, if required. |
