PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability by providing a guidance display at the entry of a terminal equipment where a plurality of characters is assigned to one key so as to uniformize number of times of key operation thereby avoiding ununiformned entry depending on a character. SOLUTION: In the case of entering a character 'Ne' in the Kana (Japanese syllabary) entry mode, when a key 5 of an entry section is depressed, a guidance menu of a character group N-series assigned to the key 5 is displayed on a display section. When '4' is depressed according to the guidance menu, 'Ne' is confirmed and a confirmed character is displayed on an uppermost stage. According to this method, number of times of key operation is uniformized as to each character till the character is decided thereby avoiding ununiformity of the entry depending on characters. Moreover, even after a character group is designated through the depression of a numeral key, a longitudinal scroll key 9 is depressed to revise the character group. Thus, in the case of entry of a terminal equipment where pattern of characters are assigned to one key, guidance indication is provided to improve the operability of key entry.
