Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce luminescence dispersion and improve color purity by providing phosphor layers emitting in a white color between a front substrate having a color filter and a back substrate. SOLUTION: A color filter 14, a black lattice 15, and a color filter protective film 16 are formed on a glass substrate 4. Display electrodes 6, 6a, bus electrodes 7, 7a, a dielectric layer 8, and a protective layer 9 are formed on them to obtain a front substrate 1. A photosensitive film 19 having the prescribed pattern is laminated on a glass substrate 5, the glass substrate 5 is machined by the sand blast method to form grooves as main discharge spaces 100, address electrodes 10 are formed on the grooves, and phosphor layers 12 containing phosphors emitting in a white color are provided on the inner wall surfaces of the grooves to obtain a back substrate 2. The front substrate 1 and the back substrate 2 are positioned and fixed so that the display electrodes 6, 6a and bus electrodes 7, 7a are made perpendicular to the address electrodes 10, then the main discharge spaces 100 are evacuated to adjust the pressure in the main discharge spaces 100.
