SOLUTION: A photopolymerizable monomer and a photopolymn. initiator are added to a liquid crystal compsn. having a ferromagnetic liquid crystal phase (S5). The state in which two kinds of domains varying in the molecular major axis directions from each other coexist in the ferromagnetic liquid crystal phase (S6) is irradiated with light to form high-polymer network structures within the liquid crystal layer (S7), by which the liquid crystals are made to exhibit the macroscopie switching behavior between the three states with the sate described above as a stable state. |
