METHOD AND DEVICE FOR FORMING WHAT IS CALLED INDEX PRINT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display the printing form data of an image stored on photographic film on an index print by designating a film area printed on an individual print and a non printed area. SOLUTION: A magnetic reading head 15 is brought into contact with a film tape behind a measuring device 11 in the advancing direction of the film so as to read data put on the back side of the film. The form and magnification for printing a master are obtained from the read information, and an objective lens 3 is adjusted, then the masking of the tape of photographic paper on a window 4a is adjusted. The information concerning the printing form is introduced in an editing device 10. The device 10 stores the information in an image storage device together with the image signal of the master from a camera 9 and designates, especially, the area of the master 16 which is not included in the print. In such a case, the part where the master is not printed is separated from an intermediate area copied on the individual print by two lines on the image on which the number of the index print 16 is put.
