FOCUS SETTING DEVICE FOR OPTICAL DISK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly complete the setting operation by dividing the focus setting operation for an optical pickup into two stages, quickly setting an objective lens on an approximate position in a first stage and setting a focal position in a second stage. SOLUTION: In the first stage of setting operation, a first and a second focal point switches 6, 7 are turned on. A first focus setting signal is transmitted from a focus setting signal generating means 8 by a command signal for playing, a driving current is made to flow through a focusing coil 1 and a focus is searched. When an objective lens 4 almost reaches a focal position, the switch 6 is turned off by a signal generated from a focal position detecting means 10 and a hold voltage is held by a hold device 5. Next, the switch 7 is turned off, a second focus setting signal is transmitted from a second focus setting signal generating means 9 and impressed on the coil 1. Then, the focal position of the objective lens 4 is detected and the setting operation is completed.
