Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for a rubbing treatment and to obtain a uniform and good orientation characteristic even with a large-area substrate by a simple stage by applying liquid crystals by a roller or blade on the surface of a film for orientation deposited the substrate while allowing the liquid crystals to flow in one direction, holding the substrate for a prescribed period of time and forming a liquid crystal oriented layer. SOLUTION: While the roller 1 is lightly pressed onto the film 5 for orientation, the roller is driven in an arrow X direction, and while the roller 1 is kept rotated in an arrow R direction, the roller is rolled on the substrate 3 deposited with the film 5 for orientation. The liquid crystals 10 on the front side of the roller flow in the arrow direction X, by which the liquid crystal coating layer 9 is formed in the state of the liquid crystal molecules heading this flow direction. Similarly, the liquid crystal coating layer 9 is formed even if the blade is moved while its front end is pressed. The comparison made between the roller 1 and the blade reveals that the roller 1 less flaws the film 5 for orientation, allows the industrial utilization thereof and is high in productivity. The coating by the roller 1 is thus superior. |
