PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To implement a method and apparatus suitable for particularly forming an optical disc with recording pits, i.e., an article with fine embossed design on its surface with an extremely high precision. SOLUTION: The forming method is such that a smoothly surfaced disk substrate Da is manufactured beforehand, and while the surface of an ultrasonic vibrator 12 with reversed embossed design formed on its smooth surface is brought in close contact with at under a applied pressure, ultrasonic vibration is applied by the ultrasonic vibrator 12 with a given vibration frequency and vibration amplitude, subsequently, resin of the smooth surface is melted in order for molten resin to be advanced adequately in the embossed design of the ultrasonic vibrator 12, after that, the ultrasonic vibration is stopped, then, after molten resin advanced in the embossed design is cured, a disc substrate (a) is separated from the surface of the ultrasonic vibrator 12.
