PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent malfunction of a remote changeover causing disturbance to conversation by conducting usual remote changeover or inhibition succeeding changeover when a signal A or B with a specific frequency is detected by a frequency discrimination means 4 so as to allow the user to inhibit the remote changeover. SOLUTION: A CPU 1 of the facsimile equipment checks whether or not a DTMF signal is detected. When detected, whether or not the detected signal is '2' is checked. When YES, whether or not the changeover is enabled is confirmed, and when allowed, a TEL/FAX changeover is conducted via an NCU 6. When NO, the CPU 1 checks whether or not the signal is '0', and when YES, mode changeover enable/inhibit is selected, and when the inhibit mode is selected, a message is displayed on a liquid crystal display section of an operation board 4. When the enable mode is selected, the enable mode is displayed.
