Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having improved dispersibility of magnetic powder, high output and high C/N. SOLUTION: The magnetic layer 3 of the magnetic recording medium 1 including a nonmagnetic base 2 and the magnetic layer 3 existing on the nomnagnetic base contains a ferromagnetic powder and a urethane binder. The urethane binder has 1 to 4 pieces of sulfonic acid (sulfonate) groups in one molecule and its number average mol.wt. is 10000 to 30000. The content of N therein is 0.1 to 1%.
