PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which makes it possible to record at a high quality level while performing a high speed recording operation and to prolong the life of a recording head. SOLUTION: When a recording head which makes it possible to conduct a recording operation by dividing it into 8 blocks each having 8 heaters from 32 heaters and time division controlling at the respective blocks is driven by a double pulse control, the period T of the recording operation of one cycle is divided into 9 time zones, and a prepulse is applied to the one block 1 and a main pulse is applied to the block 8 in each of the divided initial and last time zones. In the zones except them, a prepulse is applied to the block (i+1) and a main pulse is applied to the block (i), thereby controlling so that the prepulse and main pulse are plied to the recording elements of the same block over the two divided time zones.
