Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reactive power compensator which can normally operate by detecting it surely even if the detection level drops. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a reactive power detector 7, which detects the reactive power generated in a power system 5, and a processor 9 which computes the reactive power to be compensated by the output of the reactive power detector 7 and the voltage detected from the system voltage detector 12. Moreover, the control method is one which detects reactive power generated in a power system by a reactive power detector 7 and computes the reactive power to be compensated, with an operating part 9, from this and the voltage value detected with a system detector 12, and operates the reactive power generator 1, based on this operation value.
