Prodn. of a chloro-aromatic cpd. of formula ArCl (I) comprises reaction of substd. phenol of formula ArOH (II) with triphenylphosphine dichloride (III). Ar = phenyl substd. by R1-R5: R1-R5 = H, 1-10C alkyl, opt. substd. 6-10C aryl or halo; provided at least 1 is other than H.
