Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the interference of a rotating grinding stone with a work handling member such as a tailstock and make traverse grinding easy. SOLUTION: A conically tapered grinding stone 10 is formed so as to be capable of moving along a first axis A1 parallel to a tapered surface 7a. When the grinding stone 10 is brought into contact with the tapered surface 7a almost perpendicularly crossing to the rotating axis of a work 6, the angle of inclination of the grinding stone 10 is increased, and the interference of the grinding stone 10 with a work holding member such as a tailstock 5 can be prevented. By only moving the grinding stone 10 along the first axis A1 parallel to the tapered surface 7a, the grinding surface of the grinding stone 10 is moved along the tapered surface 7a of the work 6 and traverse grinding is performed.
