PRODUCTION OF SYNTHETIC QUARTZ GLASS POWDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a synthetic quartz glass powder small in black foreign matters and suitable for a raw material of a high purity quartz glass product. SOLUTION: At the time of producing the synthetic quartz glass powder by firing the powder of a silica gel obtained by hydrolyzing an alkoxysilane, a reaction vessel having a physical stirring means inside is used in a hydrolyzing and gelating process and after feed of at least the alkoxysilane and water is finished in the reaction vessel, the normal stirring of contents in a reaction vessel is started. After the temp. of a sol or a wet gel reaches >=60 deg.C in a hydrolyzing and gelating process, the gel is preferably discharged from te reaction vessel as the liquid content is kept >=50wt.%.
