Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide method and apparatus for absorbing energy in impact tensile tester excellent in repeatability of a test in which the labor and cost are reduced while facilitating removal of energy absorbing pipe after the test. SOLUTION: The energy absorbing apparatus comprises a steel energy absorbing pipe 7, and a jig 8 for fixing the pipe 7 wherein the jig 8 is secured to a wall 9. The jig 8 has a constructed part 8a outside diameter of which is substantially equal to the inside diameter D of a pipe 7, a tapered part 8b, and an enlarged part 8e. The pipe 7 is inserted up to the constructed part 8a of the jig 8 and hit lightly, a the forward end thereof, in the direction of an arrow 10 thus finishing the mounting. An impact body collides against the forward end of the pipe 7 after collision against a specimen.
