Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an additive for paper making, enabling to produce the paper excellent in burst factor and Z-axis strength by compounding a specific polyanion and a cationic or amphoteric acrylamide polymer. SOLUTION: (a) A polyanion comprising one or more kinds of monomers selected from among (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)itaconic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid and their salts and having a mol.wt. of 1,000-500,000 and an anion equivalent of 5.0-17.0meq/g, and (b) a cationic or amphoteric acrylamide polymer are compounded in an (a)/(b) weight ratio of 0.5/99.5 to 10/90 to produce the additive for paper making. The additive is added to a pulp slurry, from which the paper is subsequently produced.
