Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound in high yield, by hydrogenating only the respective aromatic nuclei of an aromatic sulfonic acid and its salt under mild conditions of low temperature and pressure using noble metal catalysts such as ruthenium, palladium or platinum. CONSTITUTION: In the presence of (A) a catalyst obtained by carrying at least one metal selected from a group consisting of ruthenium. palladium, platinum and rhodium on a carrier such as pref. activated carbon, diatomaceous earth or alumina, (esp. pref. activated carbon), in (B) a polar solvent (pref. water, methanol, dimetylformamide, etc.,), a catalytic hydrogenation is conducted by making hydrogen act on (C) an aromatic sulfonic acid and its salt to obtain the objective alicyclic sulfonic acid and its salt. The catalyst A is used at pref. 20-50wt.% based on the component C.
