PRODUCTION OF METAL POWDER

PURPOSE: To keep the distribution of grain diameters in a narrow range and to obtain a metal powder uniform in grain diameters by colliding a molten metal with a discoid brush rotating at a high speed, atomizing the molten metal into a molten droplet and rapidly cooling and solidifying the droplet. CONSTITUTION: The molten metal of Al, etc., is received by a tundish and then passed through a nozzle 4 to obtain a small-diameter molten metal flow. The flow is collided against a discoid brush 2 rotating at a high speed to split and micronize the molten metal into a droplet. The droplet is brought into contact with a cooling medium and rapidly cooled to obtain the metal powder. Otherwise, the brush is arranged in plural stages, and finally the micronized droplet is spheroidized by surface tension and then rapidly cooled by the cooling medium.
