Zusammenfassung:The invention relates to [1,3- C2]-glycerol dinitrates and their preparation setting free carbon dioxide from radioactive barium carbonate; reducing the carbon dioxide thus obtained in an inert organic solvent; reacting the C-formaldehyde compound thus obtained with nitro methane; reducing the [1,3- C2]-dihydroxy acetone compound thus obtained in an inert organic solvent; nitrating the [1,3- C2]-glycorol compound thus obtained with a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid, and separating the mixture of [1,3- C2]-glycorol -1,2-dinitrate and (1,3- C2]-glycerol-1,3-dinitrate thus formed from each other. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of [1,3- C2]-glycerol-trinitrate having very high specific activity which comprises nitrating [1,3- C2]-glycerol obtained as above a) with a mixture of an alkali metal nitrate and sulfuric acid, and thereafter separating the [1,3- C2]-glycerol trinitrate [1,3- C2]-glycerol trinitrate or b) with a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid and thereafter separating [1,3- C2]-glycerol trinitrate from [1,3- C2]-glycerol-dinitrates. The isotypes have extremely high specific activity, high purity and reliable stability.
