Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To detect a waterdrop, waste refuse, an injury or a stain in distinction from a nonmetal enclosure. CONSTITUTION: The image of an object is taken to form a light and shade image and the density profile on the line passing through the central part of the rounded foreign matter in the light and shade image is calculated and the number wherein the primary differentiation of the density profile passes a zero point is calculated. When the number passing this zero point is 3 or more, foreign matter is judged to be a waterdrop and, from the density and shape of the foreign matter, waste refuse, an injury or a stain is judged.
