METAL HYDRIDE STORAGE BATTERY AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To improve high rate discharge characteristics and internal pressure rising characteristics of a battery by immediately activating a negative electrode and making it in oxidation proofing condition without using a charger. CONSTITUTION:A separator is arranged between a negative electrode 2 and a positive electrode 3 taking hydrogen storage alloy as active material in a metal hydride dry cell. Metal in which reference electrode voltage is more base than -0.828V is added to the positive electrode 3. The base metal added to the positive electrode 3 forms a local cell with the positive electrode 3 and produces hydrogen and sore the hydrogen to the negative electrode 2. In manufacture of this metal hydride dry cell, the hydrogen storage alloy of the negative electrode is reduced and activated by electron by adding the base metal of the reference electrode voltage to the positive electrode and taking the positive electrode 3 as a negative electric potential than the negative electrode 2 and shortening between the positive electrode 3 and the negative electrode 2 and supplying electron from the positive electrode 3 to the negative electrode 2.
