Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a peptide useful for synthesizing heptaprenyldi-phosphoric acid(HDP) which is an intermediate for biosynthesis of prenylquinone, etc. CONSTITUTION:A peptide derived from Bacillus stearothermophilus has an amino sequence from 1st to 220th amino acids or an amino acid to or from which one or several amino acids is substituted, lost or added. A transformant (pTL6/JM109, etc.) transformed by manifestation vector containing DNA coding the peptide is cultured and a peptide having heptaprenyldiphosphoric acid synthetase activity is obtained from culture products. Several gene fragments are obtained from PCR of a part of sequence of well-known prenyltransferase and gene region in the vicinity of these gene fragments is cloned and HDP synthetase gene derived from Bacillus stearothermophilus is cloned by measurement of manifested activity.
