Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a method for isomerizing a wax by which a base oil for a lube oil, excellent in optical stability and having a high viscosity index is economically obtained in a high yield by using one kind of catalyst. CONSTITUTION:This method for isomerizing a wax is to regulate the contact temperature in a reactional zone on the upstream side to 350-450 deg.C and that on the downstream side to a lower temperature than the contact temperature in the reactional zone on the upstream side by >=35 deg.C in bringing the wax into contact with a catalyst for isomerizing the wax containing at least one metallic component selected from nickel, cobalt, molybdenum and tungsten and, as desired, phosphorus supported on a refractory inorganic oxide carrier under 50-150kg/cm pressure of hydrogen.
