LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device provided with a transmission/semi-transmission type and higher luminance type edge light system illuminator by making the end face of a light transmission plate inclined and disposing a long-length light source along an inclined surface. CONSTITUTION: As to the illuminator 10, irradiating light from a fluorescent lamp 5 is made incident on the inclined surface (b) of the light transmission plate 4a also, the part of the irradiating light is reflected by a reflector 8a for a light source, the reflected light is guided to the inclined surface (b) of the light transmission plate 4a, and the effective light emitting area of the illuminator 1 is stipuleted while the light introduced to the plate 4a is reflected by a light reflector 7. The shape of the effective light emitting area is nearly the same in a size in accordance with the effective display area of a liquid display panel 3. Thus, since the minor axis end face of the plate 4a is inclined and the fluorescent lamp 5 is disposed along the surface (b), much light is introduced to the plate 4a from the lamp 5, so that much more light is emitted from the plate 4a.
