Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To prepare a filter element with the specified region hardly clogged and having a long service life. CONSTITUTION: The filter element 2 constituting an air filter 1 consists of a hollow cylindrical sintered compact S having a fine open cell. The grain diameter of the resin powder constituting the sintered compact S is gradually decreased from the inner periphery of the sintered compact S toward the outer periphery. This filter element 2 is produced by packing a resin powder 4 in a forming die to form a compact, then rotating the compact along with the die and sintering the compact.
