ELECTROMAGNETIC STIRRING BRAKE DEVICE FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE: To suppress the uneven growth of the crystal of the molten steel and the floating of inclusions by providing a plurality pair of magnetic poles and exciting coils provided corresponding thereto on the outer side of a cooling mold in which the molten steel is poured from a nozzle, and connecting both AC and DC power sources to a part of the exciting coils. CONSTITUTION: The three-phase exciting windings to form an electromagnet together with each magnetic pole 7 are provided, a DC power source 13 is connected to one coil, and also connected to AC two terminals of an AC power source 8. Two other coils of the three-phase exciting windings are connected to the AC power source 8. The DC power source 13 and the AC power source 8 are connected in parallel to the coil 6, the DC power source is shut off from the AC power source 8 by a capacitor 21a, and the alternating current is cut from the DC power source 13 by the inductance which is much larger than that of the exciting coil 6. As a result, the current where the alternating current and the direct current are interposed flows in the exciting coil 6.
