JOINT SHEET AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To obtain an asbestos-free joint sheet having good sealing properties and a markedly improved tensile strength in the direction rectangular to the direction of roller rotation during the production. CONSTITUTION: An asbestos-free joint forming composition mainly consisting of base fibers, a rubber material, rubber chemicals and a filler is passed between a pair of heating and cooling rollers. While a flexible layer is laminated on the side of the heating roll, a composition containing a thermosetting resin is laminated to form a high-strength layer and to thereby combine both the layers with each other. As a result, the tensile strength of the entire sheet can be improved by a combination of the flexible layer made from a conventional asbestos-free joint sheet composition with the high-strength layer made from the composition containing the thermosetting resin.
