Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To quickly raise the temperature of a catalyst within a short time without applying large current by forming an insulating layer from a first metal oxide and using a solder material foil containing a second metal having higher reductive function than the first metal in a catalyst apparatus which is an electrically heated type and has a layer structure of foils having the insulating layer between the foils. CONSTITUTION: A metal foil layered body 2 to compose a catalyst carrier is produced by layering a flat foil 10 and a corrugated foil 20, joining each edge part to a center electrode 3, and then coiling these foils on the center electrode 3. At this time, a solder material foil 41 containing a metal having higher reductive function than a metal oxide to compose an insulating layer of the corrugated foil 20 is set in a part to compose an electrically conductive joining part between the flat foil 10 and the corrugated foil 20 in the way only parts of the solder material foil in neighboring layers are overlapped in the metal foils-layered direction and then the flat foil 10 and the corrugated foil 20 are coiled. Then, the resultant layered body is heated, so that joining parts in which insulating property of the insulating layer is broken are formed in these parts. An exhaust gas purifying catalyst is carried on the surfaces of the flat foil 10 and the corrugated foil 20.
