Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To provide a backlight for a liquid crystal panel having high luminance and capable of displaying distinct white, and a reflecting sheet used therein. CONSTITUTION: This backlight 1 is provided with a light transmission plate 10, a linear light source 20 and the reflecting sheet 40. The linear light source 20 is arranged proximately to the end of the side surface of the plate 10, and surrounded by a reflector 22. A light diffusing sheet 30 is laminated on the light emitting surface 12 side of the plate 10, and a liquid crystal panel 50 is laminated on the sheet 30. The reflecting sheet 40 is provided on the back surface side of the surface 12 and a covering layer 42 is formed on the plate 10 side thereof.
