Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To permit the separation of copper without using big amount of treating solution by a method wherein waste, including iron and copper, a substance containing chromium, and reducing agent are changed into a melting and reducing furnace and metal, discharged form the furnace under a molten condition, is cooled gradually in a mold to make an ingot while the ingot is cut into a part which is constituted mainly of α-phase metal, and another part which has a high concentration of copper. CONSTITUTION: Waste, including at least iron and copper, a substance containing chrome and a reducing agent are charged into a melting and reducing furnace and the waste is molten by reducing chrome, contained in the chrome containing substance and having atomic value larger than 0, by the reducing agent. Metal, discharged out of the melting and reducing furnace and having molten condition, is cooled in a mold to solidify and deposite an α-phase metal, in which iron and chrome are molten, at first and thereafter liquid phase metal, having high concentration of copper, is solidified to make an ingot. Then, the ingot is cut into a part which consists mainly of α-phase metal, and another part having a high concentration of copper. According to this method, the separation of copper from the discharged metal from the melting and reducing furnace, can be effected without using a large amount of dangerous treating solution.
