Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To improve the durability of a magnetic layer by selecting a prescribed Young's modulus for a coating layer and selecting a maximum impregnated content of a liquid lubricant on the surface of the magnetic layer to be higher than a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a non-magnetic support base, a coating layer provided on the support base, including at least one kind of cross-linked resin, including inorganic powder dispersed in the binder and a liquid lubricant, and a magnetic layer provided in contact onto the coating layer and including a binder and magnetic powder dispersed in the binder. The magnetic recording medium is characterized in that the Young's modulus of the coated layer is 1×10 dyn/cm or below and the maximum content of the liquid lubricant measured on the surface of the magnetic layer is selected to be 400mg/cm or higher. The durability of the magnetic layer is improved by selecting the Young's modulus of the coated layer to be 1×10dyn/cm or below and the maximum content of the liquid lubricant measured on the surface of the magnetic layer to be 400mg/cm or higher in this way.
