Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved quadruple wave mixer that can provide more intense inverted pulse with more compact constitution. SOLUTION: A light quadruple wave mixer for generating a phase-coupled signal is composed of a light source 9 of a light input signal, a fiber laser for receiving the signal, and a detector 17 for selectively detecting a frequency shifted signal generated by the quadruple wave mixer. The laser is a rare earth doped fiber laser having a fiber cavity phase-adjusted to the input signal. The frequency shifted output signal has inverted spectral waveform compared to the input signal. The mixer can be formed in a compact form of short cavity length of 100m and can provide an inverted signal at the same intensity as the input signal so as to be a mixer particularly useful to provide inversion of spectrum to an optical communication system.
