Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To obtain a starter for fermented milk, containing a bred specific Bifidobacterium longum improved by breeding, having a high suppressing action on the increase of serum cholesterol and capable of producing a fermented milk product having high survival property of Bifidobacterium. CONSTITUTION: This bacterium is a bacterial strain obtained by improving Bifidobacterium longum SBT 2933R by breeding, e.g. Bifidobacterium longum SBT 10254 (FERM P-14820) and has a suppressing action on the increase of serum cholesterol and contains Bifidobacterium having >=10 /g viable cell count after storing at 10 deg.C for 14 day in a fermented milk product.
