Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: To improve substantial fuel consumption by using evaporated fuel even in an operating range which is set up to a high lean fuel-air ratio near a lean limit, to improve the stability of combustion at the time of lean-burn while using evaporated fuel and to realize stratification. CONSTITUTION: A lean-burn engine has an evaporated fuel supply means where a purge passage 57 is connected to an air supply passage 52 for supplying air to an injector 40 in each independent intake passage, and the evaporated fuel is thereby fed to each independent intake passage; a swirl generating means for generating a swirl in a combustion chamber; and a control unit 70 for actuating the evaporated fuel supply means and the swirl generating means in an operating range having at least the specified lean fuel-air ratio. The introduction of the evaporated fuel into each independent intake passage is carried out in the intake stroke of each cylinder.
