METHOD OF PREPARING 2-ARYL-2-CHLOROMALONIC DIESTER

Prodn. of 2-aryl-2-chloromalonic acid diesters (I) comprises reacting a 2-arylmalonic acid diester (II) with aq. hypochlorite in an inert solvent at pH 8-14. In the formulae, R1 and R2 = 1-6C alkyl; cycloalkyl or aralkyl; and Ar = Ph or aryl substd. by 1-4C alkyl or halo.
