Then the management information is set in a main storage device in a normal mode. If the management information is changed, this changed information is written into a storage plate of the nearest pool 210 from the disk head. In each of computers 1001 to 100n, the management information is stored in response to the seeking operation for storage of data and regardless of the type of information since the updated management information stored in the storage device 200 is written into the nearest pool 210 from the disk head. As a result, the unnecessary seeking operations are eliminated and therefore the seeking operations are minimized.
