METHOD AND DEVICE FOR FILE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT

PURPOSE: To shorten the seeking time for updating of the management information on the storage/transfer processing of data stored in a file by writing the changed management information into a storage place of the nearest pool from the disk head. CONSTITUTION: This file system management method is prepared for a disk storage device 200 which records and refers to data on a disk medium. In an initialization mode of the management method, the pools 210, i.e., the common storage places of system management information are distributively allocated on the disk medium. Then the management information is set in a main storage device in a normal mode. If the management information is changed, this changed information is written into a storage plate of the nearest pool 210 from the disk head. In each of computers 1001 to 100n, the management information is stored in response to the seeking operation for storage of data and regardless of the type of information since the updated management information stored in the storage device 200 is written into the nearest pool 210 from the disk head. As a result, the unnecessary seeking operations are eliminated and therefore the seeking operations are minimized.
