NEW BIPHENYL DERIVATIVE OR SALT THEREOF AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AGENT CONTAINING THE SAME

PURPOSE: To obtain a new biphenyl derivative having COX-2 selectively inhibitory activity, having excellent anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic, and antiarthritic actions, with slight side effects such as digestive tract disorders, thus useful as a highly safe anti-inflammatory agent, etc. CONSTITUTION: This new compound (salt) is expressed by formula I R is a (halogen-substituted) lower alkyl or aryl; R is a (substituted)aryl or group of the formula Z-R [R is a (halogen-substituted) alkyl, alkenyl, etc.; Z is O, S, a (substituted) imino, etc.]; R , R are each H, a halogen, CN, azide group, etc.; (n) is 0-2}, e.g. 2-(2,4-difluorophenoxy)-4'-methylthio-4-nitro1,1'-biphenyl-. The compound of formula I ((n) is 2) is obtained by reaction between a compound of formula II and a compound of formula III (Bu is butyl) in the presence of a palladium-coordinated compound catalyst.
